Friday Trivia/Puzzle
You need to measure out some gold dust to pay for your new cabinet saw (woodworking relevance added).
You are given the following:
A more-than-sufficient pile of gold dust of a purity that sells for $800/ounce.
Two beakers of exactly the same mass, neither graduated, one of which holds 5 ounces, and one 3 ounces.
As much water as you want.
A balance scale that you are only allowed to use for one balancing.
Can you measure the gold required to pay for your new $3,200 saw?
How (or why not)?
