Monday, Time to repoint.
Lumber with center cut pieces (wood containing the stem) where the pith is visible deserves attention because by looking at the shape of the cellular characteristics (in this example, shapes) of that center one can identify the wood species. Not all woods have the expected round rings as so often seen, for example, in pressure treated 4x4s, 4x6s, or 8x8s. So for a gold star what wood(s) show a five pointed star shaped pith shape. What wood center has a triangular shape? What wood center shows a relatively square shape?
