Hazy Lazy Humpday Triviola

Looks like a steamy day ahead here in the foothills. But I'll take it over snow any day! On to the question.....

In medieval Japan coopers stayed busy. They made barrels of course. But what else were they called upon to make?

Was steamy day a clue?

I'm thinking a wide mouth abbreviated barrel.

No...

..."steamy" was not related to the answer...thankfully!

Getting Warmer

You are getting warmer but not hot enough!

Process of elimination

If not a coopers bath tubs, straw lined Ice Boxes, or Taiko drums, and it is hotter than a hot tub it has to be ash lined hioke or subitsu

Cooling off now.... Hint

The contents of Ken's guess was what got him in the ball park.

Hint #2

During the same time coopers would not have been used in Europe because the things Europeans made for the same purpose were a different shape.

Re: Hint #2-COFFINS

Most deceased are buried vertical instead of horizontal in Japan because of the scarcity of land. Same holds true for Korea or did when I was there in 1953-54.

My take on what I believe Ken got the question correct I came up with a never heard of coffin, see link. To be kind to my Pall Buriers(sp) I should use something light like redwood, ' >. Hope someone sneaks in some chisels for me.

Thanks for the question, Tommy.

We Have a Winner! Answer

Ken gets the freshly cosmolined Golden Uni for his correct answer of coffins. Coffins were shaped and built much like barrels and the coopers were employed to make coffins as well as their customary barrels. In times of battle extra coopers would be called to be on hand for coffin making.

Good job Ken!

Thanks For A Great Trivia Question

Gave me an opportunity to verify that senility hasn't set in yet despite what my wife says.
