I once did a very expensive photo shoot for a national advertisement that featured military men and women standing at attention in dress uniform. In that photo the representative of that service displayed on their uniform rows of military ribbons purchased from a movie supply house. All went swimmingly well in the production, printing and placement and the ad was launched with national magazines. Within twenty four hours a Navy Captain and Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations called to �advise� that the ribbons were not only in the improper order, but that the services were mixed, and �No ________ Navy man was going to wear the ribbon designed and awarded to someone in the _________ Army�. If we ever wanted to do business with the Navy we ought to reshoot and I mean now! He wanted the ad pulled there and then. In the days that followed complaints by the tens arrived by letter (before e-mail) and telephone (the Marines were particularly displeased). Being a civilian I had no idea of what I had approved when checking the photos before sending them on. Didn't matter.
So for today, although there are different decorations and awards for the various services, what are the five highest decorations in order of precedence for any of the services? Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard?
