I can not tell a lie
Thanks for the uni Thomas, but it seems that my conscience has to send it back. I was thinking of Gum trees in general and not specifically the Sweetgum. I seem to remember ('seem to remember' dang, I should have been a politician) that most all of the trees generally classified as gum trees have that sap and can/is used in a similar manner.
I think some credit has to be given to the Jack Pine response too. I don't think that I have ever seen a natural substance sticker than Jack Pine Sap. I have seen chain saws gummed up to the point of stopping upon hitting a pocket of sap. The Indigenous Populations of the north country used the sap as a glue and medicinal purposes. Oh lord I just had the image of the sap being used instead of Amodium AD (sp?).
