Thursday trivia

What is this type of cupboard called? They were used in many churches and sometimes in wealthy homes. For extra credit, give a saying used sometimes today that is either derived from the name of this cabinet or at least comes from the same source. (The saying is three words with the last word being the same as part of the name of the cabinet.)

Try to answer first without Google, but if you must, there is a hint in the wording that will help you find it ;-)

Re: Thursday trivia

It is a dole cupboard, used for giving bread or other food to the poor.

The saying could be "tithes and offerings" or "alms for poor" or "dole out money".

Those are good sayings too. The one that I was thinking of is "on the dole"

Re: The saying

I did'nt know what kind of cabinet, but I believe the saying is "on the dole" refering to someone who is receiving a handout.
