Back from a little R&R in southern Indiana. Well rested but as we all discover, our in-boxes never take a vacation. :-( Enough whining...onto the question!
The Red Hook Ale Brewery of Portsmouth is the proud owners of a world wide notable piece of New England woodworking. What is it and who made it?

The Answer:
In 1998, Spaulding & Frost Cooperage of Fremont, New Hampshire, made the world's largest wooden barrel, now located at the Red Hook Ale Brewery in Portsmouth. The barrel is 16 feet high by 10 feet wide and weighs 2,450 pounds with the capacity of 7,200 gallons.

Hi Tommy, Spaulding & Frost is now gone forever. Fremont is in the next town over from me and was a 10 minute drive from my house. They closed down 3 years ago, two of the buildings have been torn down, the 100+ year old machines were sold for scrap, and the land is now rapidly turning into a condo development. About the only recognizable thing that will be left is a roadside historical marker sign. Truly a bummer since it was a great plae to visit nad had a nice little factory store.
Ahhh, that's OK. I'm into hand tools anyway.
