Shellac Happens
and as it were I am looking for the chemical formula for shellac. Does anyone know what it is?
This would be a great trivia question if I had the answer.

with a molecular weight of 1000. C60 H90 O15 represents and average molecule. But there are a number of acids and it can also be separated into hard and soft resins. I had to call manufacturers to get sources. It is, get this, "generally regarded as a composed of a number of polyhydroxy acids, mostly of the aliphatic series, present in lactones, lactides, and interesters, varying in molecular weight from 300 to 3,000." As the TV commercial says, I have no idea what that means, but I want it. So there you go. This is what I was provided as sources but I haven't checked any. Hope it helps.
