A filletster plane produces a fillet, a rabbet plane produces a rabbet, a dado blade produces a dado, a spokshave produces shavings-am I on the right track or just WAG'in ?

I was going to post the answer then I thought of another tool that almost qualifies as the answer but not quite. The other tool produces a 'chime' and something else that is also the name of the tool. This is actually a hint.

A plumb bob makes plumb lines, a chalk line makes chalked lines, a straight edge finds straight edges, and a mortiser makes mortises.

Answer to the hint

The answer to the hint is a 'howel' which makes a chime and a howel.

You folks had some good responses but the tool I was looking for is used in barrel making and it is called a "croze" and it produces the kerf on the ends of the barrels to hold the barrel heads and the kerf is called a 'croze'.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the tool you are refering to is properly called a "cooper's croze plane". Most people would drop the cooper's and some would drop the plane.
