Another Friday Filler

Just ran across this bit this morning. Thought it would make a good trivia question.

??? is the plotted amount of light from the sky that will be available in a building once an adjacent building has been erected. In building construction in certain countries, a builder may need to recognize the legal "rights to light" of nearby building owners. Accordingly, formulas have been created for calculating ??? and these can be computerized.

What is the ??? called? Googlers please hold off for a while.

Re: Another Friday Filler

I did one of these a few years ago. It was a planning project here on campus. The question was about whether a proposed building would affect the sunlight getting to a nearby agriculture research plot.

But I'll hide in the shadows for now and study what other reply.

Tom

PS...the results did show an affect so the design of the building had to be stair stepped!

Answer

It's called the "Grumble Line", and is reportedly the amount of light below which a clerk would begin to grumble about the difficulty of reading.
