Any Takumi would know that for centuries the construction of Japanese castles and temples was done without nails. Lacking such fasteners, the construction had to be of an exacting nature. Thus brought the birth of a form of tools that many of us use today (I know I do).
What are they?

Japanese Chisels or Razor saws such as Dozuki, Ryoba,and Kataba. I have a Dozuki and it is my hand saw of preference.

I had the opportunity to observe a temple building under construction in Kyoto over a period of several weeks. It was amazing to watch those guys chopping out mortise after mortise.
Nevertheless, the hardest working tool there appeared to be the portable Makita planer that was being used for surfacing all the timbers. ;-)
Ken Wins the Golden Unisaw for Today
Japanese pull saws, such as the Dozuki and others evolved to meet the precise joinery needs of the Takumi, who were the master carpenters.
