Monday
Just goes to show how language affects people. Is it an estate tax or a death tax? Same tax. During the weekend I went to an auction where a piece of furniture was put on the block. The auctioneer called it a 1800's "Mammy's Bench", and when he said it a audible murmur went through a mixed race audience. I'm sure that his name choice of "Mammy" lowered significantly the bid price of this quite nice item. I noticed that the winning bidder had it removed immediately from the auction barn. It went for $125. About 1/5 of what I would have expected. So what is a Mammy's Bench?
