Don is in the ballpark. Tree species wise go down to a lower elevation.

Never! : ' ). But the tropic did light a bulb in me head. Actually, I was a little bit brothered by folks referring to it as "bad wood". Most of my 840 sq. ft. shop is paneled with cottonwood, inside. I lost 3 boards out of 168 (same tree mind you), 1"x8"x10'. I believe those 3 boards where "bad", as in wavey, due to the bandsaw-mill blade getting dull. I had the sawer quarter-saw them.

Good good on naming the wood species.

Dale, Dale, Dale....

I may have termed Cottonwood a/k/a Aspen a/k/a Poplar as a bad wood for railroad ties but it is a pretty wood for what you are using it. I like working with this particular wood. In fact I have SWAMBO almost convinced of using Curly Aspen T&G for our kitchen ceiling.

a problem Robert. Cotton and aspen etc. has a place besides pallets. There's a lot of questionable information in books on "odd" woods, AKA book-sense. I'm always interested in a new wood. I once purchase a tree for lumber: Tree of Heaven. I got home and research the wood properties out; basically it said the wood is not worth considering. I love showing wood-wise folks my office door in my shop. Tree of heaven looks like a cross between SYP and ash.

Good luck on convincing your wife with the aspen ceiling project sounds neat.
