What is the name (a) of the stuff that clogs the vessels in quercus abla, which makes it great for use in -------(b)?

Great question. I know that is white oak, but I had to look up what plugs the vessels. Since I looked it up, I will give others a chance to answer without doing so ;-)

If memmory serves, the stuff is called tyloses, or something like that. Sheesh, it's been 30+ years since my intro to botany class back in college. Makes the wood waterproof so it'll hold fluids without leaking, making white oak wood great for cooperage. One of the locusts also has this stuff in its vessels, but I can never remember if it's the black or honey locust; I'll have to google it once I'm done here. In any case, again I must ask: where's the beer! Or, since I live in Walla Walla, WA, home to nearly 80 wineries, where's the wine?
