Post-Haunting Humpday Triviola
Well for once all our ghouls and goblins were in costume and well behaved. Unfortunately for them, my wife bought Halloween packs of pretzels to hand out. Travesty! ;-)
On to the triviola:
I opened a bottle of Merlot recently. But long before I poured the first glass the toast had already been made. How so?

Toast is the heating of the planks "light,Med, or Dark" when bending to make barrels

Steve and Dan are correct. "Toasting" refers to the process of heating the oak staves of wine barrels. The length of heating results in a "toast level" on which the flavors of the wine aged in the barrel will partially depend. During the heating of the staves, some substances of the wood are caramelized and develop a multitude of aromas, such as vanilla, fresh bread, buttered bread, or a touch of nut, that will be found in the final taste of the wine. Toast level will be adjusted according to the customers' requests: light, medium or heavy toast.
