I think what you're getting at was used to build the local poker palace about 25 years ago. A bunch of good ol' boys cut firewood at this fellows farm every saturday, hard workers, their wivies were proud of them. That is until they found out all the stove wood wasn't coming home with them. The firewood runs got longer and longer with less and less wood coming home.....LOL

....and I never played cards there but I did like the looks of the little shack in the woods.

Stovewood masonry is when 12" to 18 " logs were placed cordwood style in a wall. The interior was filled with mortar. Corners were squared off notched timbers or laid in quoin style. Michigan and Wisconsin were the U.S. places where these are found and they could last 30 years if water didn't get to the sides of the logs. (End grain was OK) In Siberia there are walls that are more than several hundreds of years old. For a look and explanation go to:
