Monday's feeble thought
I don�t normally like to eaves drop, but lunch Sunday I heard the older group at the booth in back of me discussing odd things like stepping up to the stake, God�s eye, ears, butts, and losing a lash. What were they talking about? Hint: It wasn't their health.

Dan was the best answer as he stated something to do with weaving. The things they were talking about were baskets. The place was Newark, Ohio, home of Longaberger baskets. The terms are "butt": to bring ends of two pieces together, flush against each other. "Losing a lash": Hiding the end of the reed, cane, whatever in the rim of the basket. "Ear": Lashing into which ribs are inserted and/or the loops to which handles are attached. "God's Eye": a four point lashing either to start a basket or finish a handle. "Steping up to the stake", A term to start the next row one stake (upright)to the right or left of the starting point of the previous row on twill or herringbone baskets.
