What does the following sentence define?

A piece of wood cut off a log that has two flat sides but still needs to be sawn on one or two edges.

Not sure Tommy, I'm having a difficult time defining a billet, but the best I can tell a billet and a ? maybe different.

However I know that term as prepared cut sections of a log prior to turning...akin to "blank".
