Thursday Trivia

Aerobatics in a small plane can be exciting, but Charles Lindbergh said that there was something that beat the thrill if flying. What was that something?

I have been woodworking for about 25 years now, and would consider myself an enthusiastic amateur. My claim to fame (or infamy) has always been fixing stuff. I spent time in the Air Force in the 60's then went to work as an electronic technician for civil service. I finally got my EE, and being fed up with the civil service nonsense, took a job with Ford Motor Company until I went with the split to Visteon last year. I got interested in music and started playing in a bluegrass band. I wanted a new guitar, and that kind of led me into woodworking. I bought some books, a few tools, and built a guitar. Luckily, I didn't know any better than to try that as a first ever project. I still play it when I get a chance, so it must not be too bad if it can live for over 20 years. After a stint in Mexico for my job, I moved into a new house and built a small shop. Since then I have been collecting tools and skills, probably more of the former than the latter ;-). Finding this site has done more for my skills and enjoyment than anything else. I have learned a lot and really enjoy the friendships that I have made here. I have been married to LOML (Lori) for 32 years now and have 6 kids. When they are all gone, I want to get a 1 bedroom house (so there is not room for them to move back in) and at least a 6 car heated/air conditioned garage for a shop. (Dream on...)

I hope I am not posting too soon, even if I am wrong. The most thrilling thing for me when flying is a safe landing.

Yep, the only thing equally thrilling is the day after eating auction food waiting to see how sick you'll get. Gotta go, have an auction this morning.

OK- lets review the evidence-Thrilling-wood related-Food-Coney Island-Feeling Day after-can only mean one thing. A ride on what in it's day was considered the most exciting Roller Coaster ride in the world. It was constructed of wood and if my feeble mind can remember back 60 years to the last time I rode on it I think it was called the CYCLONE. It was exciting, but compared to the ones of today very mild.

Plus I seem to remember there were airplane races just off the beach of Coney Island. And Lindburgh took off on his flight over the Atlantic from Roosevelt Field on Long Island just outside the city limits in Nassau County. It is now a massive shopping mall and industrial complex

The family and I where at a resturant in the past few days and I recalled see a large ad on their menu for a Nathan's hotdog, did not mean a thing to me, guess I'll try one...Dale

TRY IT--YOU'LL LIKE IT.

It has a very strong garlic taste to it that will repeat itself a few days after eating but it is Kosher which helps if you are Jewish. No pork-all beef. The store bought ones are good but not as good as the ones sold at the Nathans at Coney Island. In fact the whole amusement park at Coney Island smelled like a Nathans Famous Hot Dog.

Even over powered the smell of popcorn.
