Monday, Yawn , Stretch.
I picked up a Stanley Tools "How To" book and in it it was talking about a stopper or stoppers. Huh? So what is a stopper in woodworking? No credit for saying its the cork you shove into a bottle to keep the beer from spilling out.

I doubt it's what you seek but I think of stops as things I use to be end points for cuts, such as on my miter saw to do repetative cuts all the same length.

answer I'm seeking, but what you say is a stop too. Think British terminology for what I read.

It is usually my wife yelling "The toilet is overflowing" when I am right in the middle of a glue up.

"Wood stoppers are used to repair defects by filling holes and cracks. Do not confuse these with grain fillers, which are used to fill the pores of wood prior to polishing. Never use a stopper to fill wood grain." Examples of stoppers are given: Wax sticks, Shellac sticks, beaumontage (rosin and pure beeswax,), and PVA glue and powder artist�s color or wood dust.
