I must admit that the answer surprised me. I would have gotten it backwards. (and missed the date by a lot) There are also two possible answers to the question and a bit of disagreement as to which is correct, but the above holds in either case.
This is a 1/2 "honest" answer and 1/2 cheat. My apologies in advance.
My better 1/2 (see the connection?)is English and clued me into some of the details (that's the honest 1/2 - no Google). With that I "HAD" to find out the rest of the story - aka Paul Harvey.

Google or anything else is fair game after a decent amount of time has passed. I just like to give those that know the answer without looking anything up a chance to answer. Not problem. ;-) You are correct. I would have guessed that the name for the song came from the clock and not the other way around. Here is one link. I found several that all said basically the same thing.
