Here is a question for a damp May weekend that seems colder than any we had last January:
When was the last time an Olympic cross-country ski event was won on all wooden skis?

Well now, we had a really nice day, 8:30 at night, 60 deg. I only had to scrape a little ice off the windshield this morning. The snow is melting fast at work, only 110" left.
I had to cheat and google, but the answer surprised me. I would have figured at least four years earlier. By 77 my (relatively cheap) Nordic skis, while mostly wood incorporated fiber glass and plastic

The year was 1972. I was still skiing on wood skis at the time, but fiberglass was rapidly taking over.
