Thursday Trivia

What is the word for this?

The act of splitting wood by the grain which is transverse to the annular rings.

Hint: If you were to hear the word in conversation, you would probably associate it with something other than wood. ;-)

Might it be anything like what would happen if one were to wander into a yard full of angry pit bulls?
