OK, since I was asleep at the switch this morning and posted the trivia as #2, I will post a #1 just so thae thread doesn't look too weird.
Can you guess what the person in the picture is doing? A hint is that even though he is doing something not woodworking related, there is a specific reason why he made the fixture out of wood.
He is building a very high tech item. (like a particle accelerator ;-). Some parts were recieved for it and he needed to do something to get them useable. You have probably used what he is working on, but likely on a smaller scale, where you didn't have the problem that he has.
Clearly (from the gloves) this gentleman is attemmpting to achieve cold fusion. However, the clamp he is using is obviously not capable of achieving the required pressure. Something on the order of a Veritas Twin-Screw vise would be needed.
They were building a plasma chamber for a particle accelerator. Some of the parts they needed were very large rare earth magnets. It was impossible to separate them by hand, so they built the fixture in the picture to separate them.
