Thursday Trivia

If I were said to be chiming the gun, what would I be doing? (and making)

Shooting fish in a barrel?

Re: Thursday Trivia

Chiming must have to do with bells so I'm very sure that means playing a carillon with bullets. In that case what you'd be making is a lot of racket!

;-) and the answer more clearly ;-)

The chime is the tapered part of a barrel at the ends. Making this is called chiming. A barrel that has the hoops on it and is in the form of a barrel, but without the ends is called a gun. Hence chiming the gun.

Got lucky!

I knew what a "chime" was, but I wasn't aware of the "gun" terminology.

Thanks for the question!
