One for the Thanksgiving Table

Which weighs more--a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?

Obvious

The turkey weighs more because there are no bones in ice cream;-)

A Trojan Turkey!

The answer for ounces is different than for pounds.

Re: One for the Thanksgiving Table

An ounce of gold is heavier since gold weight is measured in Troy ounces which are larger than avoirdupois ounces.

Answer

Which weighs more a pound of feathers or a pound of gold? ANS: Feathers.

Feathers are based on avoirdupois weight and gold is based on troy pounds, an avoirdupois pound is based on a 16 oz pound, and troy pound is based in 12 oz pound. A troy pound contains 372 grams in the metric system; an avoirdupois pound contains 454 grams. Each troy ounce is heavier than an avoirdupois ounce, but there are more ounces to make a pound in avoirdupois. A pound of feathers weighs more. Troy oz. is 31 grams, avoirdupois oz. is 28.4 grams.

Try that on the family on the holiday. The kids table is the usual winner around here. Happy Thanksgiving all.
