Well, in this area, based upon what I see in most homes, and based upon the local popularity of "hand made" (yeah, right) "Amish" furniture I'd have to say about 99.99999%.

I wasn't originally going to take a guess, 'cause I'm not sure there is such a thing as a typical N.A. Forest. But maybe an overall average for all hardwood forests would be 50-60%. A lot would depend on how it's been managed or mismanaged over the last 100 years.

I say 7%. Lot's of other woods out there that grow a lot faster.

Things are back to to normal with me...Answering the question three days later. Dale was the closet with his 50-60% range. Although you could have guess anywhere above 50% and been "correct". The USFS is pretty vague when they say that more than 50% percent of forest is made up of red and white oak.
