In the late twentieth century this American company sent officers on travel to find play things and even weapons, for development into toys for the kids and young adult market

One item was variously made of wood, grass/bamboo, vines with use on at least three continents. It was so old it couldn’t be patented. Yet a name change and modern materials warranted a TM and R from the Patent and Trademark office and generated a fortune for a company.

A different ancient mostly wood item made by the company was made specifically to feed pet falcons and hawks. From it the company took its name.

A third item, a weapon used in countries below the equator became a toy and was advertised in the back of Popular Science and similar magazines.

What were the products and the name of the company?

Re: Monday

I'm not quite hip enough to appreciate the first one.

The second one is illegal in Massachusetts.

The third one escapes me at the moment. It'll come back to me in a while.

Re: Monday

Hip enough. Not less than $50 nor more than $1000 and up to six months in jail. Let it go it won't come back.

Bill got it right.

The name of the company was Wham-o--more follows.

The first was the hula hoop. Older versions were found in Africa, Australia and India. Wham-o changed the ring to one made of plastic, added color, and further made different through the addition of putting tinkle bells or rattles in the hollow tube. The second item was the sling shot that launched meat into the air for training birds of prey, and the third was the nerf like darts used in a blowgun.

Wham-o got its company name from the sound of slingshotted raw meat hitting a target.
