I took a stroll through Mr Hoadly's book, and read all about the process, but danged if I could find a single word description which included Lignin in any form. How about ligninization, although it sounds a little made up.

I would think lignification is the gluing or cementing process that holds the wood together. If I recall correctly lignin is what they remove during the pulping process to make paper. I recall if lignin were not present "wood" would be cotton like substance. Lignin makes sense. Could you provide us with a link where you found this, or was this a book answer?

Here is a google search with a bunch of info. I am not going to give out the link where I originally found it as there are a few more trivia questions there for another time ;-)

Normally, when I find something that I think would be a good question, I try to find at least one other source for the info. I can sometimes still get bitten, but when I do that, there is normally someone here that knows and we all learn something;-)
