... branches that angle away from each leaf that emerges, giving each branch a crooked, zig-zagging appearance? Or are your seed-pods long and thin like cigars? Or, perhaps your seed-pods emit a downy white fluff to help distribute seeds every spring? There are other possibilities, but these three are the first to come to mind.

I have no idea of what 'Paul' has to do with it Tommy, sorry if I missed something here. I'm thinking Paul and Babe, but the tree I have in brain does not compute and I don't think you are thinking of Paul in the bible as I don't recall 'this' tree in the bible.

I have four possibilities and will need more hints. Named for a fruit? Has a color in it's name? A type of fabric in the name? Has an animal in its name?

Heart shaped leaves with fruit in name--Lime Tree (Tilia)

with color--redbud (Cercis)--Zig Zag?

with fabric--cottonwood (poplar)(Populus)

with animal--CATalpa (tobie tree)

Need to give credit to Fredrick also, as I believe his zig-zag was leaning to; that he knew the answer of: eastern redbud, C.c. something.

It's sometimes called a Judas Tree. IIRC, Paul replaced Judas on the Board of Directors. Maybe that's what Frederick is referring to?

In producing this answer, I went with the first species that came to mind, which was Redbud, known for heart-shaped leaves, and zig-zag twigs caused by leaf growth. While writing this, I thought of Catalpa, with its long, cigar-like pods, and cottonwood, both of which have heart-shaped leaves.

As for the religious connection, it is not something that would have occured to me.
