Unfortunately, there's one thing that has made it worse (better?)--data mining that leads to targeted ads. If you signal that you're in the market for a particular item, hoo-boy... What's worse is that advertisers used your mined data are getting much better at predicting what you MIGHT be in the market for, and put a bunch of THAT in front of your face.
I'm pretty good at banner blindness, and just scrolling on by, but there are a few things that tend to catch my fancy, and regrettably, even my clicks.
