Peter, you might like that I’m restoring the oldest log cabin in my home county, built in 1840, to become part of the county museum.
Some of the old logs were too decayed to use, so I just cut the dovetails on both ends of 8 new 18’ white oak logs last weekend.
Since it’s a double-pen dogtrot, I’ve had to calculate the 1.5” shrinkage expected from the new logs so it ends up level with the other, to straighten the roofline.
that video exemplifies a reaction or algorithm preference on youtube that i find annoying. you have to insert yourself in the video thumbnail or your views will halve or third, but it makes the guy in the video look like a fool. I know he's not, but he's doing that because the algorithm says to and he well knows that if you don't bow to the algorithm, youtube will soon deprioritize your videos.
I guess it also highlights that people think the reaction with the material is more interesting than the material - as if they either have a morbid need to see what other people think out of curiosity, or they are too insecure to form their own thoughts without getting confirmation of consensus.
I miss 2008-2012 or so youtube.
