Just finished a coffee table in slab English walnut for a friend.

Had a devil of time finishing as my go-to topcoat (for 15+years) was General's ENDURO Clear Poly gloss. I much prefer an "off-the-gun" but the stuff simply refused to level out giving an orange peel surface. Finally had to sand back to level with Abranet 800 and then buff up to a high gloss.
Tried thinning and General's Extender but still couldn't get the finish I wanted like this
Anyone here have similar problem with Enduro? Seems like "they" may have changed to formula. Buffing gives a wet-look finish which I personally dislike for furniture that will be used.

Having apparently ditched the exhaust fan in the executive washroom at General Finishes, they've removed any way to contact them for technical assistance on their products. I'm therefore moving my finish coating business to Target Coatings here in New Jersey. Spoke to Jeff Weiss, the Target company Pres., about my orange-peel issue and he steered me to several of his waterborne finish coatings to solve my problem.
20+ years ago Target was at the forefront of waterborne coatings, and I used their lacquer because it had 100% burn-in rivaling N-c solvent lacquers; a must if you're going to be rubbing out to wet-look gloss finishes.
If anyone here likes a clear orange-peel finish, I've got a full gallon of General's Enduro Clear Poly gloss free for pickup before it goes to the haz-mat collection day for my county here in NJ.
