My dad ask me to reproduce a blasting cap storage box he used while working in a limestone quarry probably 70 years ago.

Nice. I'm not a woodworker and am wondering why the dovetail cuts in the front. They're fine, but not needed past the grooves for the sliding box cover. If they were to stop at the groove, is that what is called a blind cut?

Makes sense. These were probably made by the hundreds, and aesthetics took a backseat to production. IOW, it's not furniture for show. And the miners carrying them probably weren't concerned about making any fashion statements with their blasting cap boxes. 
It looks like a perfect copy. And I like cherry, too.
