Define controversial ?

Maurice

It's an idea with merit but at what cost to the life of the conversations?
Since when was critiquing a machine you personally don't like cause for such
offence ? And permanent banishment ! WTAF.
If someone says " sorry but I honestly can't stand the taste of Asparagus ! " you don't say get out of my house you obnoxious opinionated vile disgusting excuse for a human being !
You are more likely to say, not a problem, how about the roast potatoes?

Then over the course of dinner someone may say they don't like Trump and the other thinks he's great.
Excellent  ! A lively conversation instead of talking about the bloody weather.
When did disagreement become so traumatic to the forumistas?
So now I've been dumped in to the social outcast bin, lol, the Puritans can gloat without loosing to much face !

You know, In Europe we make disagreement an opportunity to make jokes, laugh at ourselves and each other. It's an art form.
But not in Puritan America, oh no.
There is a very common saying in the UK.
American's. Puritans on the outside. Perverts on the inside.

So true. And look how quickly they witch hunt anyone who dares to dissent from their noble ideals.
Before they came to America " to escape persecution" they were THE persecutors.
Cromwell was a butcher. The Puritans were
Witch hunter's who sought out widowed women of property to burn so they could steal their asset's. Sound familiar ?
Land of the free my ass.
Land of the steal.
Why did you have a revolution ?
Because the British demanded you honour your treaties with the natives and stay east of the Appalachians. But no, the Puritans had manifest destiny and the Yankee traders wanted to continue slaving while the Brits successfully ended it.
Washington and all his friends were Mason's. Greedy two faced opportunists.
But many of my ancestors who moved to the US were Quakers who demanded a bill of rights to stop the radicals running rough shod.

Now America's greed and proxy war profiteering has made it global enemy number one. Nobody trusts you or respects you. You financed Hitler, the Bolsheviks and any other war that lined your pockets while remaining " neutral".
I remember well the disgust my family expressed at lend lease knowing full well America was profiting massively from financing both sides.

Your time is at an end. You no longer control Russia and the rest of the world is slipping through your fingers. Your empire is dying and your in denial.

A close relative watched, a helpless RAF observer as you bombed innocent civilians with your new toy, AFTER the Japanese had sued for unconditional surrender.
American treachery at its lowest.
Patton, the blustering arse, was going to continue on in to Russia if he had his way.

That same arrogance exists in all American owned forum's. That same frat rat, gang rape mentality that saw a gf of mine punished for dating a Limey. With gang rape and her sororities collusion.
Sick.

Are all American's bad ? No. But my God you people have a twisted perverse culture.
And now you're retarded president is stupid enough to foment nuclear conflict with Russia ?
Well fck me sideways with a wooden spoon.
Talk about certifiable..

So what do you think will happen now ?
Honestly  ?
Forum's dying ? Nobody cares and who can blame them. The American dream is a nightmare driven by greed and lies.
Sooner or later the bill comes due and it's now. Wherever Freemasons gain traction they corrupt everything. I've seen it over and over again just as my grandfathers did.

Freemasons love to infiltrate and gain control of charities, clubs, business of every kind, local state and federal government.
Forum's too. They love to boast and hold court. They take credit for the work of others and claim it as their own. Thieves.

Why do you guys have so little to say ? So little sense of humour ? So quick to pounce, so slow to grow up.
I remember talking to a native American who despaired of the fact that the white man decimated the native buffalo. Not for their superior meat, but to starve his people in to submission.
America !
Trump won't save you. He is just as hell bent as the other's.
The death of free speech is the beggining of Communism. The Russian's got out from under your boot. And now they are going to humiliate you. Via Telegram. Oh dear.
So you have a vast army of trolls to try and curate the dialogue. It won't last. The dam is breaking.
I just wish America would grow up and learn humility and gracious manners. Tolerance instead of rule's.

I think it has merit because the alternative will result in many ceasing to visit the site because they are not interested in non-woodworking topics. If that happens, then there is zero conversation. This allows people the option of reading what interests them. Just like the division of woodworking topics into General, Hand Tools, and Turning forums, breaking the Open Topic forum into a Controversial Topics sub-forum will allow people to choose what they want to read, and what they do not want to read.

I don't see why it's necessary to split the topics.  I just skip over anything that doesn't interest me, and I'm sure others do too.

I find many of Maurice's posts interesting, and others just rambling.  His latest is more political than most, but seems also to be true to point.  Some might find it offensive, but I find it refreshingly realistic.  So, why make a new sub-forum just for his posts?

Vitriol of a different flavor--from a different nationality in this case-- prompts curiosity. Then, WTF. I am not certain of the validity of various points made by the OP, but find much uncomfortably honest. And, much, likely, a reflection of efforts to twist historical facts.

I do know that when "off topic" forums are allowed they have a deep impact on the character of the participants. Case in point: I ventured onto one Off topic site and was so disgusted  by the sub human racism expressed, actually worse than trump and friends, that I put together my own garbage talk post that included some pretty quaint  terms I've known since childhood, and posted it. Most on the forum saw the cynicism, but one was upset permanently.

So, in summary: no, most of us are sick of the diatribe in current politics, and we need the escape to believe most people are intelligent and actually match intelligence with respectful actions.  Second, Wood Central needs no Off topic forum. If you want validation for your ignorance, please go elsewhere. You don't want the albatross around your neck. Or, perhaps, I don't want to medal you with rotting flesh.

Excellent. Some passionate feedback. THATS what this forum is missing.
Here is how it works in the real world.
Two guys get in to an argument.
They give each other hell and sooner or later they both manage to score valid points against the other.
They concede a point and the duellists learn Mutual respect.
It's not a crime to disagree.
It's a mistake to repress alternative view points.
Let it ride. Let everyone colour their conversation a bit. You don't have to agree on everything.
Nobody ever does.
Yes, I made some sweeping generalisations about America but I loved living there and working there. I loved how crazy it was.
Sometimes you just have to allow others their style and drive.
Every nation goes through growing pains.
As do you and I.
Respects and sincere thanks to all of you for having the balls to speak up.
That's how it should be.
I want to see America survive this mad time.
I want to see Germany get its shit back together.
I don't want to see our kids loose their future because we didn't grow a pair and stand up to the nut job's in DC and Parliament.
Cheers 🍻
