Even with the simplest of tools you can cut a through mortise and tenon.
In Germany the standard pipe organ apprentice piece was a pair of Organ builders trestles. It taught you the necessary basics of dimensioning the timber, cutting it to final length, marking out and cutting your joint's. And at the end of it you owned a pair of trestles for life.
Simple honest strong joinery. No dowels, tech screws, domino's, reinforcing plywood plates, Kreg jig nonsense. Sturdy trestles that could easily hold a ton and up to two or more ! If you made these trestles any other way it would be structural suicide to load them up that much. 
Here I am using two such trestles to support what must be three quarters of a ton of cast iron at least. Notice how useful the stretcher of the taller trestle is as an additional supporting rail. What's it made of ? Cheap nasty radiata pine. The short one is made of Aussie grown Poplar.
Unlike bulky heavy carpenter's trestles, these are light, stack neatly and don't crap out.
Don't be decieved by their apparently slim appearance and scantlings. You can make these trestles with bog standard 2x4 stock.
Easy as ABC.
Or you can stuff around with some overcomplicated funky "breakthrough" design from one of those Juice Tube channel's while they show off their latest overpriced prestige must have bling tool.
