For my Japanese garden shed. The design program for this was to have bench that fits against one wall of the shed for potting plants and other garden tasks that require a bench. I wanted to use up scraps and leftovers from the shed build and hardwood boards from my stash that were orphans or rejects not suitable for furniture but sound enough to be laminated together for a workbench. I wasn't too concerned about a Japanese esthetic since I don't know what a Japanese potting bench looks like!
Legs are 4x4 western red cedar. Rails are construction grade Douglas fir. The base is draw bored mortise and tenon using black locust and hickory pegs with square black locust plugs because I like the look. The top is cobbled from sycamore, black cherry, madrone, butternut and white oak. There will be boarder boards of golden chinkapin to keep the dirt contained. Plywood shelves are let into rabbets in the rails and will be tacked down with bamboo pegs. I hope to finish it up by Sunday.
