A friend asked me to look at his riding mower. He said it wouldn't go into reverse all the time. I took the deck off checked all the linkages when I heard a noise coming from the transaxle. It sounded like a piece of metal was blocking the shift lever. I went on line looking for a new transaxle or a parts list for it, no luck. We then brought it to two different repair shops, and both said the same thing, there are no parts available to fix it, and it is basically scrap now. The mower has been serviced ever 10 to 12 hours of use and is in great shape. We called Husqvarna and were told the same thing. What a waist of money. If you need a new riding mower I strongly suggest not buying a Husqvarna.

#2You might try Jackssmallengines.com and see if they have the transaxle. I doubt if they have any internal parts however and a transaxle would cost half the price of a new mower.. I have several huskies and never had a transaxle problem. I have had a reverse problem that turned out to be a worn drive belt. It would go forwards, but wouldn't back up. I'd check that before giving up on the mower. You didn't say what the hour meter read, but 6 years old would probably be time for the belt to be worn out.

Edited #3I was changing the drive belt when I heard the noise in the transaxle. The CVT belt I can find a replacement for, but it is not worth it. As I was turning the belt I could feel what ever is binding. I turned the pulley by hand and can feel it also so I know it is inside the axle.

Follow up. Checking the MFG date it shows it was a 2016 mower sold to Lowes. It must have been stored for awhile, because it was sold brand new in 2018. The transaxle is made of a composite material not aluminum. The material has broke down inside the housing around the bushings, causing the issues.
The mower was stored inside a garage (HOA rules) and maintained, it has 218 hours on it. I did find another with a blown engine in it, just not sure it is worth fixing for this gentleman, he is 82 and has a hard time getting on and off of it.
He is getting a Cub Cadet ZTS series. It will be easier for him to get on and off (steering wheel), it is a zero turn that does great on slopes. Now I have to list this on FB marketplace to get it out of my yard.
So I still stand by don't buy one especially if it has a black transaxle (composite).

The "plastic" transmissions were used on a number of different machines made by MTD for various brands. They've proven to be very unreliable.

#5I thought Husqvarna was made in SC, not by MTD. I have't bought any MTD products in many years. This Cub is made by MTD, but it is a good fit for the person. Also it is not one sold to the box stores where they want a certain price point. We are going to a Cub dealer to buy it.
