As they say, the best time to plant a tree is thirty years ago, and the second best time is today.
Here in Oregon, Douglas fir trees are planted like corn or wheat crops but with 40 to 80 (or more) years until harvest. A different way of thinking for most of us.
You just have to be a little bit patient. I planted 3 Chinese chestnut trees about 50 years ago. If there are hawks in the area at harvest time, to keep the squirrels down, I get about 15 pounds of chestnuts. If the squirrels are around I only get a hand full of the chestnuts.
