Stair parts

These spindles are for a commission to make 15 stair balusters and two newel posts. They are poplar. The newel posts are made in two pieces because they are about 50" long and I have a Stubby lathe that I have stretched to about 45" max. I turned a 1-1/2" tenon/dowel and epoxied it into each end of the segments. The join is between the long taper and the middle bead. I sure wish I had a VL300 long bed right now!

The spindles are all about 4" longer than the originals per the contractor's specification.

I have a homemade tool rest that is 3 ft long across three banjos. I used the Oneway bowl steady on the balusters.

Nice work!
I have to make a couple of newel posts for the bottom of my basement stairs - right now it is a cobbled-up, unturned 2x4 creation and I won't tell you how long it has been in service.  The dowel joint is also what I'm looking at.
