Bug Experts?

#1

I'm turning a jar and have several bore holes around a knot.  Knew they were there at the start and filled them (and some cracks) with epoxy before I started.
Now that the jar is about finished I've got 3 filled "spots" that are precisely 15/64" in diameter.  As the jar is hollowed to about 1/4", if there was a nest, it was long-since been converted to shavings so I have no idea how deep these guys actually bored.
Wondering what borer makes tunnels that size.

Very precise critters. You can find them trundling around looking anemic (Blind). A favorite afternoon activity are crumpets and ... orange juice. They are pretty shy, so don't thump the cavity walls like a boor. They may take a taste for fresh bone. I am pretty sure your description accurately describes the final rendition of their domicile.

Wood bee or boring bee.large thick black be.  Solitary not nest bees

I find that the wood bees, the large black and white ones, make 3/8" holes. I have a lot of wooden deck around my house and they sometimes like to make a hole. I guess that they lay eggs in the hole. Anyway, when I see one, I get a 3/9" dowel, cover it with glue, and push it into the hole behind the bee. When the glue dries I use a flush cut saw and then stain the dowel to match the deck stain.

Carpenter bees.  Plugging the holes deters the bees, but then the woodpeckers put big holes in the board trying to get at the larvae.  Ultimately, the woodpeckers actually do more damage than the bees.
