I was in the process of cleaning and organizing the shop, tackling small jobs in hope of gathering enough ambition to do actual woodworking. Over the past couple of days I had gathered old bits of pine that were once destined to be the white-wood in a Shaker tall chest project that was abandoned and glued them up into a lamination with some fiberboard to make a block to store my collection of Forstner bits. Got near the end and, lacking the proper metal for decent French cleats I grabbed some steel "T" brackets to mount the block inside of an existing tool cabinet. Upon getting it mounted I noted that, quite cleverly, I had not taken the full-overlay hinges on the door into account and that the block now kept the door from closing completely. Rather than drill more holes in the door I figured that, "Hey, if I whack a half-inch off the offending end it will work fine". Well, fine except that I didn't think about the steel brackets and steel screws... The picture doesn't reflect (pun intended) the nice shiny appearance of the bisected screw and bracket since it was just reflecting the black of the phone camera. I can't seen any actual damage to the table saw blade but I'm sure that it didn't do it a lot of good.

Good to hear you're back in the shop. Your post got me to thinking we should start a discussion here about how our relationship to the craft changes with age and over time.

I am 87+ years old. Don't have any "needs" for our household, or family. Also, I have decided, for various reasons, to do only hand tools woodworking. So, lately I have made a few small tables suitable for plants, lamps, etc., and a couple of small wall shelves. These are made with simple pine, and finished with shellac. These items were then donated to Habitat for Humanity. Thinking about the next project. Any ideas welcomed.

#4I am 84 years old. During my working years (retired in 2002) I did the usual house remodeling and made furniture for our home. since retirement I have gotten into Intarsia. I just finished a soaring eagle which is 20 inches long and 14 inches high. These small size projects are fun as I select all species of wood and use no stain or paint.

Hahahahaha - NOT for beginners - but in fact easy to follow.
I am similar, though I doubt I have tackled the range of projects you have. I have made 3 benches, but no chairs.

I finally made some chairs, chairs to go with a tavern table I made for my son and DIL. They are white oak. I made everything as thin and slender as I dared but not thin enough. Those chairs are HEAVY. Should have made them out of something lighter, like aluminum wood. The message to you is to carefully choose the style and wood and keep them light.
