Common #5 plane

Moses Yoder

I was in a shop yesterday and gave them $15 for this very common #5 Stanley. It comes from back when they were still making good planes, V logo on the iron. Somebody spray painted the sides black, no idea what will be revealed when I remove the dirt on the japanning.  Will be a nice project.

I am not doing crap today, going to eat breakfast at the Yellow Cat here in South Bend after a while and then some grocery shopping and misc., Super Bowl party at my sister's house this evening.

I have spent the last few days restoring a No 5 Bailey and a #4-1/2 Bailey.  The 4-1/2 required quite a bit of sole lapping.  The blade had pitting on the back near the cutting edge.  Might have to buy another iron.
