Hand tools and/or Woodworking suggestions for a trip to England?

#1

Hi All -

I am planning a trip to England this Fall and I am looking for suggestions (outside of London) where there might be things to see and do pertaining to woodworking hand tools and/or woodworking.  We visited London 4-5 years ago, so this trip we will NOT be in London but visiting other parts of the country.

We are just beginning to plan our trip....and the only place on the itinerary for sure so far is Bath, though I wouldn't be surprised if Stratford upon Avon and or Oxford/Cambridge also end up on the list...and maybe Hadrian's Wall if we venture that far north and have that much time.

But when I think of England and woodworking I first think of Sheffield and the factories that churned out sharp, high-quality steel cutting tools over the centuries.  But when I google for things to see and/or do relating to woodworking hand tools or woodworking very little shows up.  Perhaps not surprising.... or perhaps I'm using the wrong search terms.

But I thought I might check here in case there might be any forum participants or visitors who are from England or have visited and found some interesting things to see and do having to do with woodworking hand tools and/or woodworking more generally speaking.

If so, I'd sure appreciate any suggestions you might offer.

Thank you!

Richard Maguire might be a place to start.
Paul Sellers blog, or you might try his YouTube channel.
Touchwood Crafts near Oxford started by Charles Ash.

Those suggested above have at least some hand tool woodworking as part of their output. I can't help you much more than this because hand tool only woodworking has never been of much interest to me so it's not something I've concentrated on, researched, or pursued.  Still, the above may give you a start.
