I turned a pair of candle sticks out of Pacific yew. The tree is an under story in the forest along the Pacific coast. These candle sticks started as limbs. You can see the crooked piece next to a roughed out piece. Sticks are 9.5"h and 2.5" wide.

The other pieces are bud vases with a 1" x 6" glass insert. The short one is highly figured big leaf maple, 7"h x 3"w. The tall vase is silktree commonly called mimosa., 11.5"h x 2.75"w.

Nice Dave. R.O. would be pleased.

I gave a turning lesson to an Eagle Scout candidate.  Had him turn a candle stick.  He started with a chunk of wood and 2 hours went home with an Osolnik candle stick in cherry.
He was proud, but his mom was over-the-moon and went out and bought him a mini lathe and tools (with a little guidance from me).  Last I heard he's still turning. ;)
