Badger Pond

Badger Pond was a forum run by Wayne Miller that abruptly closed up shop in 2003.  I don’t recall what software was used, but it was a threaded HTML format, much like WoodCentral was before you transitioned it to the current software.  WC got a shot in the arm when BP shut down, and SawMill Creek was started by Keith Outten, growing quickly as well.  I think most members landed in one or both, though I recall there were a few that seemed to disappear from the interwebz.  I had only been on BP about a year, if that, when Wayne pulled the plug.

Badger Pond and The Oak were two of the other popular ww forums that started around the time that I did. Both ran on WebBBS. I was running a forum utility called StickIt, which was developed by a good friend of mine who ran a small server farm in Allentown PA. It was functional, but I was attracted by the mixed-threaded message format of WebBBS. When Wayne Miller, the owner of Badger Pond, decided to hang it up in '03, he suggested to his members that WoodCentral would be a good alternative, and a lot of them migrated to "Ellis island," and it was the beginning of our heyday. Wayne also gave me ongoing rights to his article content, which we maintain here to this day. A lot of our long-term members came from the Pond.

Does anyone have a functioning CD-Rom of the BP website and forums. Old memories with good posts. I have one but it does not run.

Forgot that my W11 l-p doesn't have a disc drive, so can't check compatibility.

My computer is so old, I can still play 8-track tapes and 45 RPM records on it.

@Ralph Lipeles, Nope. I can't even remember what I had for b'fast this morning.

I can remember way back the time if you needed to do a series of simple calculations the solution was to write a FORTRAN program for a big computer. It was amazing how the appearance of personal computers and spreadsheets like Lotus-123 made the need for the little programs go away - and you could easily get graphs too!

LOL - we are old.  For me - FORTRAN, BASIC, COBOL and some machine code for Motorola processors.

I migrated from Badger Pond after it closed. I got attracted to wood turning through the Pond. Met a lot of great people there and learned a lot about wood working through the years. Woodcentral was a seamless transition to an other great village.

I found Badger Pond back in 2000 and quickly became addicted to it with all the great knowledge being shared.  I participated in a couple "Ponderpalooza" meetups organized by Phil Kosen (RIP) back in 2000 and 2001.  I remember being really pissed when Wayne slammed the door on the Pond with no real explanation.  It felt like somebody closed a popular community center for no other reason than they just could because they got bored with it.  I migrated here along with a bunch of others who I still recognize.  The pics attached are from the Ponderpalooza gatherings.  See if you can find yourself in the pics.
