Katrina auction bowl

#1

In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina in 2005 my friend Jennifer Shirley organized an auction on woodcentral to raise money to contribute to the relief effort. One of the forum followers had a wood harvesting business in the Amazon jungle of Peru. He offered a pink flame turning block for auction. Over the years I have looked at the wood sitting in my garage in Longview, WA and said I am going to turn that piece one of these days. The last two years the piece has set in my wood shop locker in Mesa Spirit Resort in Mesa, AZ.  Finally in December of 2023 I turned a simple bowl. The block had shrunk in the plastic wrapper was about 7 x 5 inch  when I turned the piece. There are several cracks I filled with black CA glue. There is defiantly a pink flame in the wall of the bowl. The shape of the bowl helps show the color and figure. Bowl 7"w x 4"h.IMG-1577.jpg
