About fifteen years ago I had some poplar sawed and stacked under tarps. I have used about half of it and have about 600 bf left and have discovered it is infested with Powder Post Beetles. (I have gotten a shed to store it in and was moving it when I made the discovery) So the question is What to do? I was spraying with BoraCare to prevent infestation when I discovered I already have one. My understanding is you can spray with dilute solution as a preventative and a stronger mix to kill existing ones.
So, what to do?...
Spray with a stronger batch?
Throw it all away?
Have it kiln dried?
What....?
(A little concerned about the BoraCare. Nisus, the company that makes it said not to use any sawdust as bedding. Also concerned about the risk, if any, of working with the wood. Also concerned about the effects on gluing and finishing.)
What to do with insect infested lumber???

Re: What to do with insect infested lumber???
#2The attraction to keep damaged wood is hard to pass up, especially when you have spent time, money and effort to achieve your goal. I use the same base material for ant killer, but some advice, don't dilute the liquid. I suspect other issues with sawdust; moisture and hidden hazards being two.
As a user/customer, I will never take such wood. Having to destroy a lot of rail timbers and make the difficult transition to stone and concrete is far from fun. I am too old-weak to do the replacement myself. And it would kill me to pass the reins to a contractor. Being cheap 30 years ago has come back to bite

Set up 3 horses where they'll get full sun all day. Drape with VIZqueen (no black). Spray the wood and stack it with stickers across the supports, then wrap with the film and tape the seams to seal. Forget it for 3 months (got to 138*), then inspect for the amount of dead bugs. Did this with infested maple
Wood's fine and usable.
