Thoughts - opinions - ideas - using a tapering-jig with a tabelsaw miter gauge?

Has anyone here used a tapering-jig type of device with their tabelsaw's miter gauge?

One leg clamped flat against the miter gauge face. The other leg set to the desired angle.

I think being continuously variable would be useful. And you wouldn't need to change you miter gauge's 90-degree setup.

Howard, my taper fixture is a parallel guide with a movable fence. Mine runs on a slider but could be made to run in a mitre slot …

Howard, I use an old aluminum tapering gig that slides along the fence.  Just two pieces of aluminum channel that are hinged and can be set to an angle.  Not fancy, cheap, easy and have used it maybe a hundred times.  BUT, I recently got a SawStop TS and was making a cut and it touched the blade with my hand on it and fired the cartridge.  The tiniest nick on the aluminum but it cost me a new break cartridge ($100) and blade repair.  A sled similar to the one Derek showed that slides along the fence made  of plywood would be better and in my case would not trip the SawStop.  Such a sled can be made to be very versitile and keep your hands aswy from the blade.

I also think it would not be a good idea to use the miter gauge for this as it would introduce another possibility of movement that would throw you off.

PS.  I do most of my leg tapering on the jointer now that I have figured out how and come to trust it.
