New to the forum. First post. Be gentle..

I am looking for the above marking gauge ( I am based on the Central Coast in California). I found it at Suzukitool, but it is 200USD. I am trying to pay a little less and wondered if people knew of other suppliers?

Thanks in advance.

Kinshiro has long been my inspiration. Here is how I made a few single-cutter versions for cheap ..

For some reason, I  (1) posted a different photo, not the one above, (2) cannot edit the post to replace the photo (with the one below) ...

800x468

... and (3) was only allowed to post a single photo. I was using my iPad at the time. Now using my MacBook Pro ...

p.s. This is wierd. I though I was posting afresh, but ended up editing the original reply. And from the laptop it is possible to edit. ????

@Derek Cohen (in Perth, Australia), it was me. Your post was not displaying the image, so I went to your blog and picked what I thought you meant to post. I guess I picked the wrong image. The image in the post was in what is called [CDATA] format, which may happen if copying-and-dragging and image into the post editor. Did you by chance do that?

Posts only can be edited or deleted for x-minutes after posting. That duration is configurable.  What do you think is a reasonable time frame to allow editing and deleting? Thirty minutes? Twenty-four hours?

@Derek Cohen (in Perth, Australia), I gave you moderator permissions, where you can edit posts without time restrictions. This also means the forum will show you as such. If you prefer this not be the case, let me know, and I can remove that access permission.

Peter, I did see the Moderator status a while back. Then it disappeared. Now it has come back. Speaking frankly, I'd rather not be a moderator, but thank you for the confidence and compliment.

@Derek Cohen (in Perth, Australia), yes, I did some experimenting a while back to see how that worked. Assigning someone with moderator permissions causes their name to display in certain places. I was trying to have it show Ellis as a moderator, but he has admin permissions which are the highest level, and apparently they do not show as moderators because the assumption would be they can "moderate" everything.

I also snooped around a bit and noticed the duration to edit can be defined based on different group levels to which everyone is assigned.  So I can change this parameter without making someone moderator.  There is a LOT in the back-end Visman has built into this system, I just need to find time to learn it all.

Done. That was easy enough. Removed you as moderator, and bumped the edit duration for Silver, Gold, and Platinum members to 24 hours (the default was 30 minutes).

Have you tried Hida Tool in Berkeley? They're on San Pablo, between Camelia and Gilman.I know they used to carry similar mortise gauges, but it's been many years since I've been in their place.

Hi Tut789, welcome.

you could ask the friendly folks at the Samurai Tool Pro Shop Hokuto if they can help
https://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~ttoishi/sumurai.index.html

My understanding is that this is the go-to online shop for woodworkers in Japan. I don't see any marking gauges in their catalog so you might have to ask. The US$ is strong and the Japanese Yen is weak right now, this might be the time to load up on fine Japanese tools...
